ABOUT ARTIST LAURA LEVITSKY

Laura Levitsky, one of Canada’s nature artists, has swiftly gained acclaim for her tranquil compositions and attention to detail.  She is an award winning artist who is inspired by British Columbia’s landscape, wildlife and landmarks.  Whether it’s the research of her subjects that take her on her outdoor excursions, or her outdoor excursions that take her to her subjects, Laura’s field studies allow her to recreate the natural settings of her subjects.

Laura can’t remember when she wasn’t interested in art.  Her career began in the fall of 1999 when she found some spare time out of the rush of everyday life with a full-time job and family.  She picked up from where she left off, painting in her high school years.  Laura is a self-taught artist who became self-published by 2003, producing limitededition giclee canvas prints and exhibiting her originals in solo shows and juried group exhibitions.

She comments “Art is where I go to explore and express.  I get lost in it.  It is the only thing I seem to have an infinite patience for as I can sit for hours and meticulously paint every hair of lichen growing on a tree.  For me, the details are what captures the whole story and essence of the subject and hopefully exposes it to the viewer as an important part of the whole picture, not just in the painting, but in nature itself.”  It is this, her meticulous attention to detail,  that has captured the imagination of her collectors.  Laura’s prints can be found in private collections across Canada and the United States. Laura has had work featured in numerous shows across BC as well as participated in National exhibitions and competitions.
