The Life and Art of Laura Levitsky, a Canadian Wildlife Painter

Canadian nature and wildlife artist Laura Levitsky has earned rapid acclaim for her tranquil compositions and attention to detail. She is an award winning artist, inspired by the landscapes and wildlife from personal travels throughout her life. Laura was born in the United States and raised in Saskatchewan. Family vacations served as her first introduction to the diverse landscapes and wildlife that now define her work. Though she sketched throughout her youth, her true journey as an artist began in the fall of ‘99. Dedicating time from her busy schedule as a single working mom to pursue her passion for painting, she started at her kitchen table with a modest set of paints purchased from the local stationary store, and a vision. That vision has since evolved into a celebrated career.

A dedicated outdoor enthusiast, she always carries a sketchbook and camera to capture the natural world firsthand. She creates intricate compositions by blending her field sketches, original photography, and collected natural elements which offer endless creative possibilities in a single composition. It is this meticulous attention to detail that has captivated her collectors.

Laura’s work serves as both a tribute to the wilderness and a call to preserve it. Her work has been internationally published and she has earned numerous distinctions, including the Ducks Unlimited Canada Waterfowl Stamp and Print in 2015 and 2018, the Artists for Conservation Medal of Excellence in 2018 and 2021, and an Honorable Mention in 2022. Additionally, she was named the BC Wildlife Federation Artist of the Year in 2015 and has received Awards of Excellence and People's Choice Awards from many juried art shows. Laura’s prints grace private collections across Canada and the US.
