ABOUT THIS PAINTING
This painting started first with my obsession for oddly shaped canvases, and there it sat in the corner of my studio. Come June foxgloves are in full bloom, and although I have a dozen photos, I believe in order to know your subject on a more personal level, you need to study it, sketch it, see it in all forms. I needed to get my sketches in before the foxgloves were gone again for the season. As I was balancing my very tall, freshly cut foxglove into a vase …..there it was....my very oddly shaped canvas was perfect for my idea. I pushed another painting aside to complete this one as both foxgloves and hummingbirds aren’t around for long. The hummingbirds in this painting are known as the Rufous Hummingbird.
Although foxgloves are toxic to both humans and animals they are an excellent nectar-rich food source for hummingbirds.
