ABOUT THIS PAINTING
On of my favorite spots to sit and take in all that surrounds me is in a marsh. There is always so much going on no matter the season. I chose the large composition of this painting because I think the size helps with creating the feeling of the scene, putting you right in front. The shape of the canvas, I feel, adds so much more...as there is always so much more going on than we normally see. I've included a Pacific Chorus Frog amongst the cattails in the bottom. I scooped this little guy up, brought him home for a sleepover and a quick study, then returned him to his spot the next day. I also broke my heel bone while getting my reference material and painted this entire painting with a cast and my foot up on a table.
Marsh Wrens have up to 200 songs, which they sing almost continuously during the breeding season. Their songs resemble the sound of a sewing machine. Some Wrens build between 14 and 22 'dummy' nests, which help to deter predators.
Pacific Chorus Frogs are very common frogs. They can be anywhere from gray, brown, tan or bright green and can even change between them.
