ABOUT THIS PAINTING
The Wood Duck is one of North America’s most colorful waterfowl. They are truly amazing in the light with all the colors changing as they move. Although the males are the ones who are sporting the most color, I find the females very dainty looking with the feathers on their heads almost looking like flowing hair.
I composed this with the male on the log keeping his eye on the other male swimming by, trying to impress the female. Males that have already paired up will show aggression towards any other males getting too friendly.
