ABOUT THIS PAINTING
Chickadees seem to be everyone’s favorite bird and they definately bring life to a winter day. I took over 300 photos of chickadees and did several sketches of my favorite poses for reference material for this piece before I finalized by composition. I wanted to create a scene that reflects their social behavior, chatting with each other during their busy daily quests. I'm amazed how close they will come to you when they feel comfortable.
I love love the color periwinkle so the grey periwinkle color of winter skies is what grabbed by attention when photographing the rosebush. The bright red rosehips are a perfect contrast.
